With around 400 million fans worldwide, golf is ranked about the 8th most popular sport in the world. Players like Tiger Woods have taken the sport to new levels and the world has been watching. Golf becomes quickly addicting for many of its fans because it is the one sport that can never be mastered. It offers a constant challenge to players from the time that they’re very young to their twilight years. If you want to perform well at golf, you need to practice hard and make it a priority. For many this isn’t hard, because spending a day out on beautifully manicured grass isn’t exactly a prison sentence. Training can only take you so far though. If you really want to play well, you need to prepare yourself from the inside out. Proper nutrition is key if you want to impress out on the golf course. There is a lot of nutrition advice out there, and not all of it is very helpful if you want to improve your golf game. Here are some effective tips for golfers.

You have to start out with a basic healthy diet. Foods such as healthy leafy greens, a wide variety of fruits, lean protein sources, nuts, beans, legumes, and lowfat dairy are all great places to start. You need to have healthy eating habits before you should look into further nutrition advice.

Supplements can give you the edge over the competition once you have healthy eating habits in place.

Multivitamins are a great place to start. You will often miss crucial vitamins such as vitamins A, E, D, C, as well as calcium, if you rely solely on natural foods for nutrition. Many people don’t get enough of vitamin D, for instance, because it is something that you get from exposure to the sun. You need to spend at least 15 minutes with arms and legs exposed to the sun between the hours of 10am and 4pm if you want to be getting enough of this important vitamin. You would be surprised how many people don’t get that much sun exposure. Golf can help with this, but you need to be careful that you don’t get overexposed to the sun as well. The UV rays are damaging if you don’t wear sunblock.

Golf requires a lot of different muscle groups and skills. The muscles used to gently tap in a long putt are different from the short bursts of power required to drive the ball far down the fairway. If you want to explode off the tee like Tiger Woods, you should look into creatine supplements.

Creatine is a natural amino acid that you’ll often find in foods such as meat. It provides muscles with the fuel they need for explosive power output. Since muscles often are depleted of creatine quickly after a quick contraction, you can really do a lot of good by saturating your muscles with creatine. You can do this by taking just 15 grams per day and you’ll be surprise by how much better you can play.

Golfers shouldn’t overlook good daily nutrition habits. You won’t have a chance at playing your best without taking care of your body first.
