Positivity for Better Health

We live in a world where it is easy to be pessimistic. Things can go wrong at any given moment and they sometimes do. Positivity however, is to roll with punches. Things will go wrong or differently than planned but it is ok to laugh about it and realize that things are not as bad as they seem. We sometimes believe that it is better to expect the worse than to get our hopes up only to be crushed. However, as the saying goes, it is better to aim for the stars and miss than to aim for a pile of manure and make it. Optimism and positivity is much more attractive to others than negativity and pessimism. Even if it is a little bit forced at first when you are trying to develop this trait, it will lighten your own mood and lessen your stress levels. Positivity is an important quality to work on now because it will affect your health later on. Studies have shown that people who are optimistic are significantly healthier in 20 years while pessimists are more susceptible to sicknesses and general poor health.

In time you can train yourself to be positive even when dealing with many things, but it is wise to create an environment that encourages positivity. There are certain things you can do to foster this. For instance, it is easier to look on the bright side of things if you have enough sleep. Everyone needs varying amounts of sleep, but approximately 7.5 hours a night is considered a healthy amount. You want to be careful to get a good amount of sleep without oversleeping. Getting enough sleep does improve your mood and helps your body function optimally for the entire day.

Taking care of your body in general can help you foster optimism. By caring for your basic needs, your body will have fewer complaints during the day to cause you to lose focus and become grouchy about. Things like hunger, drowsiness, and malaise don’t have to be part of your day. Eat well each day. You don’t have to be a health fanatic and cut out sugar to be smart about your diet. Eat a variety of foods so you can get your nutrients in. Also consider drinking whey protein shakes to help you stay full longer during the day. If you are low on time, meal replacement formula may be a good idea. They often include whey protein to keep you full as well as vitamins and fiber.

Another way to help increase your positivity is to surround yourself with good friends who are positive. The people we spend time with have a profound effect on us. We can’t always choose the people we associate with, but we should have a strong base of good friends to help encourage us.

In the end, it is up to you and your personal determination to be positive. If you think about it as you go about your day, you can make a huge difference in your life. It leads to a cycle of health: trying to live healthy to encourage optimism, becoming optimistic, reaping health benefits from decreased stress, and on again. Make smart choices and start thinking positively today.
