There is another alternative though. This is found in the form of bonded ADSL and bonded SDSL solutions that can offer up to as much as 10 times the bandwidth traditionally available from providers of broadband solutions.
Bonded ADSL and bonded SDSL solutions can offer up to 80Mbps downstream and 20Mbps upstream bandwidth solutions. Often these solutions offer at least twice the bandwith for half the operational cost.
Bonding ADSL and bonding SDSL aren’t brand new solutions – in fact bonding ADSL and bonding SDSL have been solutions offered in the UK broadband market place for some years. This said recent changes by BT in their 21st century network strategy have led to some unexpected knock on effects for most providers bonding broadband which have led to most providers pulling out of the market. The main issue has been that a protocol used on the core BT network routers called multi-link PPP or MLPPP has been de-supported.
This sounds like bad news for businesses looking to utilise bonded ADSL and bonded SDSL services, especially when you consider that for a business simply looking to upgrade the capacity of its internet connection, bonding broadband still has several advantages:
1. Redundancy of the internet service provision over multiple providers
2. High bandwidth at lower cost than a leased line solution
3. The ability to use bonding hardware to enable class of service on the internet connection
With the de-supporting of MLPPP the good news is that a new breed of bonded ADSL and bonded SDSL service provider has emerged utilising a different type of architecture, most importantly, without any dependency on the network provider’s equipment.
Managed Communications are one such provider, who claim to be the UK market leaders in bonding ADSL and bonding SDSL broadband technology. They avoid the use of MLPPP by connecting specialist bonding ADSL technology on the customer premise with carrier grade bonding equipment in their POPs or points of presence.
