When buying a van, one of the most important things to consider is what the van will be used for. If you are going to be hauling a lot of raw materials with it, then you will definitely want to make sure that your van racking will not get in the way of your much needed floor space. However, a contractor with a vast array of tools will require a more complicated system to keep everything organized. Let's explore some options. Van racking systems range from simple to complex, inexpensive to very pricey. Most include simple shelves constructed of steel for durability, many have support to fit over the wheel. These shelves can be plain, or be angled with several different compartments to fit smaller things. All of these have a ledge in the front to keep everything in place and prevent things from sliding off during the drive. Other options include adding special cabinets or sliding drawers or bins. The removable bins many time are plastic, while sliding drawers and cabinets are most commonly constructed of steel. The installation is done by a professional, and most van racking systems include steel strips running down the center of the van's wall which the units are secured to. You can choose one unit or a combination.

Like racking, workbenches are very handy to those in professions who work on the go. Maybe they are working in a very expensive house and want to avoid making a mess, or are in an urban area and do not have the space necessary to get things done outside the vehicle. Many mobile repair persons may find this useful as well. Benches can be extremely expensive, and include a bench-top as well as several drawers and cabinets underneath to hold important tools that you need right away. These are often best installed by a professional, and sometimes the retail price does not include that. Make sure you ask beforehand to avoid an unpleasant surprise in the end. Storage boxes are probably the least expensive option for your van. Though made popular by their high visibility in trucks, these are great for those who have larger tools and would like to keep them invisible while inside the vehicle. Great for urban areas.

No special installation is usually required, and they can be simply bolted to the van floor to keep them from being moved. You can also purchase customized storage boxes to fit your vehicle, though this is not as common in this option. People who purchase these options usually only need one or two, as unlike cabinets or racking, they can not be stacked vertically. Now that you are aware of your options, you can purchase your van racking with confidence, knowing what is available. Whether you choose a complicated racking or workbench system, the correct choice will be sure to benefit you for years to come. Weigh your options carefully, and be sure to choose something that works for all situations, especially in the future.
